Custom Galactus

When I saw the 31" Jakks Pacific Darth Vader I immediately thought that it would make a great base for a custom Galactus.  It was gigantic and the arms and legs were close enough to a Galactus design that I wouldn't have to modify them except for some coats of paint.

So I bought one when they went on sale and it has been collecting dust and I kindof forgot about the project.  However this custom contest put on by TNI gave me a good reason to dust it off and try my project.

I started by modeling the head in sketchup.  I found a face on the warehouse and built up the helmet around it.  I then divided it into 5 pieces so that it would print flat on a 3D printer bed.  I printed it up (in neon green of all colors) and glued it together.

I also printed a neck piece for connecting to vader's body.  This took a few trys to get the height just right.

Next up I worked on the chest.  I wanted a working light in it so I just a laser cutter to cut a hole in vader's chest.

I then designed a led light housing in sketchup, printed it out, and added the LED light.  The lens were laser cut and stacked to add detail to the chest light.

I then fitted it into the body and made the shoulder straps and waist coat out of chip board.

I painted him up and here are the final results:

Here he is with Marvel Select Silver Surfer:

To show a sense of scale.  The figure is 36" tall.

Tie Interceptor Finished

I finally finished up my Black Series scale Tie Fighter Interceptor.  While I was originally planning for a fighter I made the last minute decision to go ahead with the interceptor - basically because I like the design of the interceptor so much better and I don't know if I will get around to making multiple of these things.  Once I get my x-wing dug back out of moving boxes - I'll show a side by side comparison.

The wings are made out of plywood and chipboard that was laser cut into the various pieces.  Some progress pics:
I built some supports (in black) to get the angle right for the wings as the glue dried.

The blue and green pieces were 3d printed with a makerbot.

X-wing WIP and random Stormtrooper pic

So I started on a model x-wing for my Black Series toys.  So far I have the framework, and couple of the front panels, and the wings.  I have laser cut them out of 1/8" craft plywood.  This thing is turning out to be gigantic!  It will be about 3' long when finished.  I'll post updates as I progress.

And just for fun is my Sandtrooper riding a giraffe.

Iron Man Hall of Armor

I have completed a Hall of Armor for my Marvel Legends Iron Men.  I made it out of 1/8" plywood, various sizes of basswood, plex, and some silver spray paint.  I cut the pieces out and added texture with a laser cutter.  It is made to fit an IKEA expedit bookcase and to have LED lights mounted behind it.  If you have any questions regarding its design or construction let me know.
